This 𝘛𝘢𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘛𝘈𝘐𝘞𝘈𝘕 issue explores independent films released towards the end of and after the country's martial law period (the earliest film is from 1986; latest 2003). It was a sad, lonely time, and all these films reflect that feeling with lasting effect in striking ways. Were I to sum up this very expansive but impressively unified aesthetic era on both a technical and metaphoric level, I'd say this: long takes in wide shot.

This zine includes six films by six directors. There are some surprises in there, but I'll drop a few names:
‣ Edward YANG
‣ HOU Hsiao-hsien
‣ TSAI Ming-liang
‣ Ang LEE
